Kasama Chocolate

Started in 2015, Kasama Chocolate is a local bean-to-bar chocolate company on Granville Island. Bean-to-bar refers to the process of making chocolate from scratch, straight from cacao beans. While there are many brands of chocolate on the market, only a handful make their own chocolate from the bean. The vast majority purchase pre-made chocolate called couverture which is then melted down and poured into molds.

Making chocolate from the bean is a intensive process, but it allows full control over each step of the process. It also shortens the supply chain, often enabling chocolate makers to develop relationships directly with the farmers who grow, harvest, and ferment their beans.

Rational

Using hand-drawn analog illustrations (watercolour, pen strokes etc.) to create a pattern the design emulates the attention to detail and craft of Kasama’s bars. Combined with a friendly, rounded typeface for the word mark - it appeals to the target audiences interest in bold, unconventional and decorative packaging.

The back of the package displays the geographic origin of the beans as well as a concise description of the bar, the flavours, ingredient trail sources as well as Kasama’s process and values.
